Cost of the Course
Prices vary across the state from a low of about $135 to a high of about $250. Check with the college closest to you. Some Manufacturers also offer incentives. Check their websites.

Does the course give students their motorcycle license?
No – However upon successful completion of the course, the student will be provided a DMV waiver card that will waive the skills portion of the DMV test. The card is good for 1 year only.

Yes – Successful completion of the course requires passing a written test and a motorcycle skills test.

Is the course mandatory in North Carolina?
Although it is highly recommended, at this time the course is not mandatory to get your motorcycle endorsement in North Carolina. It might save your life!

What is required of students who are interested in taking the class?
This course requires physical stamina, motor coordination and mental alertness. Students in excellent physical condition complain of being very tired and worn out at the end of the day, so please be prepared for a very physically demanding experience. Students must know how to ride a bicycle. The student must be eligible to take a course through the community college system. Student under the age of 18 will require their parent (s) permission. No driver’s license is required.

What size and brand of motorcycles do we use?
We use bikes from all of the major manufacturers, to include Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. Most of the bikes are in the 250cc size range, weighing about 300 pounds.

Can I take a class on a scooter?
In most cases, yes. If you own your own scooter and carry liability insurance on it, you may take the Basic RiderCourse on it. You must clear this with the state program office prior to the class by calling us at 1-800-428-7433.
